Equivalent Dose (HT)

b. Committed Equivalent Dose (HT,50). Refer to 10 CFR Section 835.2 or to DOE O 458.1 Chg 3, Radiation Protection of the Public and the Environment, dated 1-15-13, Attachment 2 (Definitions).

c. Effective Dose (E). Refer to 10 CFR Section 835.2 or to DOE O 458.1 Chg 3, Radiation Protection of the Public and the Environment, dated 1-15-13, Attachment 2 (Definitions).

The product of average absorbed dose (DT,R) in rad (or gray) in a tissue or organ (T) and a radiation (R) weighting factor (wR). For external dose, the equivalent dose to the whole body is assessed at a depth of 1 cm in tissue; the equivalent dose to the lens of the eye is assessed at a depth of 0.3 cm in tissue, and the equivalent dose to the extremity and skin is assessed at a depth of 0.007 cm in tissue. Equivalent dose is expressed in units of rems (or sieverts).
