Approved Engineered Contamination Barrier

An enclosure which is designed with the intention of maintaining separation between nuclear materials and facility workers, and whose preventive function is a major contributor to worker safety as determined from safety analyses and approved by DOE. Examples are hot cells, glovebox lines, ventilation hoods, process vessels, and liquid transfer lines.
